Ensuring Cars Look Like New Again

Accidents will happen. Drivers involved in accidents turn to collision repair technicians to restore a car and make it look new again. The ASE- and I-CAR-certified instructors at Automotive Training Center will guide you through each day, whether in the classroom or in the modern shop facilities.

Welding & Non-Structural Damage Repair

This is an important course in the Collision program at ATC. Learn about the principles of:

  • MIG welding
  • Cutting
  • Brazing
  • MIG brazing
  • Squeeze type resistance spot welding

You will also gain hands-on experience through different welding projects, heating metals and shaping mild and HSS steel and aluminum.

Practical shop work includes practice using:

  • Hand tools
  • Disc grinders
  • Drills
  • Hammers
  • Dollies

Surface Preparation

This will cover all the aspects of priming, the primers available, and their uses, as you prep the surface for repairs.

Learn about the care and maintenance of various shop equipment, and become an expert at:

  • Power and hand sanding
  • Wet and dry sanding
  • Feather edging
  • Taping and masking

Structural Damage Repair

This course tackles uni-body and frame repair, along with major collision repair. Extensive structural damage repair may be required following a serious accident, so this course focuses on vehicles that have seen severe damage.

You’ll learn how to use measurement gauges and dimension charts to correct uni-bodies and frames so a vehicle can be safely returned to the road. Become familiar with some of the top technology available in the industry, like the Chief S-21 frame straightening bench, too.

Painting and Refinishing

This course will help students pick up on painting and refinishing techniques, focusing on top-coat finishes and final buffing and polishing for high gloss finishes. You’ll get extensive shop experience and practice in:

  • Color matching
  • Shading
  • Blending
  • Panel refinishing
  • Spot repair

Cost Estimating and Damage Repair

This course will cover preparing a cost estimate for a driver after a collision. Flat rate manuals and labor/parts guides are used to provide an accurate repair estimate for metal, suspension, steering, and other mechanical parts.

During practical exercises in this course, students will calculate labor costs for refinishing, small and major repairs, and determine where certain areas may overlap.

Use computer software and the CCC-One system to help determine estimates, while practicing with additional shop work in structural and non-structural analysis and damage.
