Your Labor Day Plan: What to Do in the Tri-State Area

Labor Day is just around the corner, and as we celebrate the American labor movement and workers, there are often many events and things to do on this weekend. Make your Labor Day weekend plans count, and check out these cool events and local activities.

Labor Day Volksfest at Cannstatter-Verein

Family Festival

Every Labor Day weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) the Cannstatter holds a popular Volksfest (Oktoberfest) party. Located in the Torresdale section of Philadelphia, this festival brings three days of delicious food, entertainment, prizes, vendors, and rides for the kids.

The park opens at noon, with live music running throughout the day. Enjoy great crafts, German beer and wines, singing and dancing, and an authentic Oktoberfest atmosphere. The Cannstatter Volksfest-Verein has celebrated the customs and traditions of Germany since 1873. The festival draws thousands of people, both German-Americans and others, to celebrate.

Made in America Festival

The Made in America Festival, which has become a tradition in Philadelphia every Labor Day weekend, is one of the city’s biggest music festivals. It comes to the Ben Franklin Parkway for another year of live music, featuring acts from various genres, including hip-hop, EDM, rock, and pop.

Dozens of performers take part in the festival on multiple stages September 1 and 2. Every year, hip-hop icon Jay-Z curates the lineup of established and up-and-coming musicians to perform. Along with the music, those visiting can enjoy rides, interactive activities, and plenty of food and beverage choices, with traditional festival fare and gourmet food trucks.

Sesame Place Fireworks

Fireworks for the FamilyFun for the entire family, Sesame Place is hosting Labor Day weekend fireworks on both Saturday and Sunday. Join Elmo, Abby Cadabby, Cookie Monster, and other characters, with music in the air and the sky covered with colorful shades of red, green, and blue.

Fireworks will start right after the 8:00 PM evening performance of the Neighborhood Street Party Parade. Make it an entire day at the Sesame Place with the Labor Day celebration, which runs Sept. 1-10. Celebrate the end of the summer on Oscar’s Wacky Taxi™ Roller Coaster, or with hugs from all your kid’s favorite furry friends!
