Off-Roading Spots

Best Spots For Off-Roading Near the Poconos

Training to become a certified automotive repair tech can be hard work.  Whether you’re interested, or actually involved in diesel engine repair training, high performance engine or collision repair—sometimes having a little fun is needed.

For techs who also participate in off-roading, or have clients that do, it can be helpful to know the best spots near the Poconos and around Pennsylvania to get out and have some recreational time.  Here are a few of the best spots worth trying.

Rausch Creek Off Road Park – 30+ Miles – This 4×4 friendly, fun and legal spot devoted to off-road fans is consistently rated excellent by its visitors.  It boasts spectacular landscapes, and the onsite camping makes it a unique place to spend a weekend, or week.

Every type of 4×4 vehicles will find a challenge here—whether they’re stock or pro rock buggies.  The incredibly varied terrain will cater to both beginners and pro competition drivers looking for an intense rock crawling experience.

Visit the Rausch Creek website to map out your excursion.  The park is open year-round.  Days and hours are as follows:

  • April through November: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
  • December through March: Saturday and Sunday.
  • Weekday off-roading and camping is available by reservation.

Poe – 72 Miles – Poe, another location with top marks, features a great trip near Clintondale, Poe Paddy State Park, and Poe Valley State Park.  With some of the best scenery in Pennsylvania—off-road enthusiasts can start their day in the vehicle, and end their day by enjoying the nearby facilities, swimming, hiking, camping, fishing, and more.  Find details and maps here.

Outback Off Road Adventure Park – With over 4000 acres made up of rocky trails, mud ravines, rock gardens, hill climbs, and plenty of scenic views—this experienced crew will help off-roaders have the adventure of a lifetime.  The park caters only to 4×4 jeeps, trucks, and SUVs, and has plenty of stock, moderate, and extremist trails.

Your first time at the park, a guide is recommended, and those who become regulars can benefit from Outback’s 30 years of experience and organized trail ride events.  Keep an eye on their website for events, dates, times, directions, and rules and regulations.

While these three spots are great introductions to 4×4 off-roading in Pennsylvania, talk to other enthusiasts, look for forums and websites that serve off-roaders, and check EveryTrail for more opportunities and options.  For those interested in ATVs, also add The New Lost Trails in Poconos, Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area, Buchanan State Forest, and Bald Eagle State Forest to the list.
