Women in Automotive: Why Now is a Great Time to Start Training for a Career in Auto

In the last decade, the automotive industry has shifted gears on multiple levels, from producing greener cars to empowering a more gender-inclusive workplace. Male or female: qualified, knowledgeable individuals are in high demand. If you’re a woman who’s fascinated by cars and the systems that drive them, now is the time to get your training underway! Whether you’re interested in becoming an automotive technician, engine builder, or service writer, opportunities are out there. Automotive Training Center (ATC) is here to help you apply your interest and work toward realizing your future career in automotive.

Women in Auto: Where Are We Now?

According to a 2017 study conducted by the National Automobile Dealer’s Association (NADA)*, women accounted for 19.4 percent of active employees at new car dealerships at the end of 2016. To compare, in 2015, this number was 18.6%, and in 2014 women were just 17% of the new dealer workforce. What may seem like a small uptick in numbers is a steady one. What can this be attributed to? Today’s dealerships are making a conscious effort to encourage more women to work in automotive. And women are realizing they have a place in the industry just as much as men do. Where will we go? If you’re interested in learning more about the industry’s growth story and the gender gap, we have several organizations for you to check out. The Automotive News Leading Women Network and Women in Automotive are dedicated to connecting future female technicians with the inspiration and empowerment they need to get out there!
